The incident reportedly occurred in the Kogi forest, and many of the passengers reportedly left the train out of fear that they would be held hostage.

In the dense woodland between Ajaokuta and Itakpe, the train that had departed Warri early on Sunday morning was reported to have derailed at around midday.

Prince Douye Koroye, a former chairman of the Bayelsa Vigilante Agency, who was in VIP, claimed that it might have been a case of suspected terrorists cutting the rail line, which may have led to the train derailing because it was moving quickly.

The source, who was formerly the Bayelsa State Government’s special adviser on youth and community development, revealed that the train’s head coach and four other coaches are irreparably damaged.

He said that as they mobilized for assistance, the Nigeria Railway Corporation authorities instructed the stranded passengers to maintain their composure and recline aboard the train.

Koroye further disclosed that several passengers were still stuck in the Bush at the time this story was filed and were being guarded by the security personnel onboard the train.
