Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, a candidate for governor for the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, has denounced “the tremendous violence” that was directed towards the party’s supporters on Saturday.

The flagbearer highlighted the attacks in many state locations, particularly in the voting booths where Peter Obi was leading.

In order to stifle LP votes in the presidential and national assembly elections, Gbadebo said that the All Progressives Congress, the party in power, had organized the violence.

Thugs’ incursions in Ikate Elegushi, Sangotedo, Aguda, Surulere, Oshodi, and Osolo were denounced by GRV, as it is affectionately known.

Residents also warned of violence in Itire and Badagry, among other places, according to a source, who also mentioned Oniru and Ebute Metta.

The state of democracy is dismal. Voters were intimidated and assaulted, ballot boxes were stolen, Gbadebo complained.

We watched the footage in which a thug told people in Surulere who weren’t voting for the APC to get out of the line if they didn’t want to be assaulted.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to submit results on its webpage as promised, but still expressed satisfaction with the performance of LP in many units.

Lagosians were praised for their “will and doggedness to endure the intimidation” by the flagbearer.
