Kano enacts new law to regulate preaching

The Kano State Government has declared that new legislation governing religious preaching has been passed.

Muhammad Garba, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs of Kano State, said this to reporters while outlining the main provisions of the law.
He said that a recent State Executive Council meeting conducted at the Government House resulted in the choice.
He stated: “The law would coordinate the mode of preaching, sermons to prevent an attack on the leadership of the opposite sect, and incitement of followers via radio, television, newspaper, or any other conventional platform.”
According to him, the creation of a Council of Ulama has also received government approval thanks to an enabling bill passed by the House of Assembly of Kano State.
According to Muhammad, the council would be in charge of overseeing and regulating all religious discourses in the state.
