For the Eid el-Fitr celebration in the state, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Kwara State Sector, is mobilizing 950 men.

According to a statement made by the corps’ Public Education Officer in Ilorin on Wednesday, Basambo Olayinka Busari, operational equipment would be used in addition to troops to prevent traffic jams and accidents during the celebration.

To monitor all highways throughout the Eid el-Fitr celebration, there will be 322 Special Marshals, 27 police cars, two power motorcycles, four ambulances, and a 70-ton tow truck.

According to the statement, the State Sector Commander, Fredrick Ade Ogidan, has sent out traffic control personnel to key areas in the state’s major cities and Ilorin Township in preparation for the Eid el-Fitr special patrol, which will begin from April 20 to April 25.

The sector commander advised drivers to follow traffic laws and regulations and refrain from behaviors like excessive speeding, overloading, obstruction, using cell phones while driving, violating passenger manifests, operating rickety and mechanically unsound vehicles, and violating routes, among others.

Heavy tow trucks, ambulances, and rescue marshals would be stationed along state’s main routes to ensure free flow of traffic and a reduction in traffic accidents throughout the festivities, the statement noted.

The effort is intended to achieve a 5% Reduction in traffic-related fatalities and injuries, which is the Corps 2023 Corporate Strategic Goal 1.
