Members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State are currently in a tussle over who they will hold the presidential election in 2023.
This development is due to conflict of interest between party leaders in the state. The conflict comes at a time when G-5 governors including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, are touring the country to drum up support against Atiuku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP.
Tgpbaze reports that the former Vice President, Atiku has emerged as a presidential candidate in the party. Atiku, who hails from Adamawa, is married to a Yoruba woman, Mrs. Titi Abubakar Atiku, who hails from Ilesa in what is now Osun State. DAILY POST remembers that Atiku has made several attempts to become the president of Nigeria since the beginning of the democratic process in 1999.
He ran for the presidency of Nigeria in 2007 and 2019 respectively. Atiku returned to his former political party PDP before the 2019 election.
The former vice president won the PDP ticket and became the presidential candidate in 2019, although he was defeated by President Muhammadu Buhari. The former Vice President, who served under Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in power between 1999 and 2007, again put him in the ring.
Atiku won the PDP ticket after defeating his rivals like Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Bala Muhammad of Bauchi, former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki and many others.
